Planning a Personal Site Design Sprint
Going from nothing to something in 7 days
Published in Infinite Content on 8/3/2024
As a way to put off the putzing that comes with many creative endeavors, I recently gave myself a simple constraint to relaunch a personal site: get something up within a week.
The goal has been simmering for a while:
- Have an "owned" space on an increasingly closed internet. A canvas to showcase who I am and what I'm about.
- Have a playground to hone my professional craft - structuring content, connecting content, testing and evaluating content tools.
- Have a place to drop "thoughts" on anything I'm interested in.
- And hopefully doodle a bit...
Initially, I had sketched out this rough outline to keep myself honest. And while the day-to-day changed a bit (and it took longer than a week to actually get it deployed) the exercise provided the momentum needed to get things rolling.
- Day 1: Content Model
- Day 2: Implement Back End
- Day 3: Create Content
- Day 4: Render Content - Homepage + Thoughts
- Day 5: Domain
- Day 6: Deploy!
- Day 7: Rest?!
